Dear Parents/Guardians and Friends and Supporters of Spring Garden,
We are planning an exciting bus trip to New York City to visit the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, 1071 Fifth Avenue at 89th Street with the opportunity to visit the Central Park Zoo, FAO Schwartz Toy Store, and area shops and restaurants along 5th Avenue. We have chosen Friday, April 22, 2011 (Good Friday) for our trip because our center will be closed that day.
The Guggenheim, designed by the world-renowned architect Frank Lloyd Wright , is now highlighting the exhibits: The Great Upheaval in Modern Art” from the Guggenheim collection and the Thannhauser Collection which includes many Impressionists' work such as Cezanne, Monet, Picasso, Renoir and Van Gogh, as well as several other current exhibits.
A chartered bus will leave Spring Garden Children’s Center at 8:30 a.m. for New York and the Guggenheim Museum. We will tour the museum until 12 noon when the chartered bus will take us to 59th and 5th Avenue (the main entrance of Central Park). At this time, you can lunch in the Park and visit the Central Park Zoo. The zoo has 3 main areas: The Polar Zone, The Tropic Zone and the Temperate Territory. The zoo admission also includes the Tisch Children’s Zoo and the Acorn Theater. The admission cost for the zoo is not included with the museum and transportation costs. The Zoo admission costs are Adults, $10.00; Senior Citizens (65+), $7.00; and Children (up to 12), $5.00.
Another option is to have lunch in an area restaurant and visit the stores on 5th Avenue such as FAO Schwartz. FAO Schwartz Toy Store is 150 years old and the world’s largest toy store.
The bus driver will designate where the meeting place to board the bus to return to the Center. The bus will return to the Center at approximately 6:00 p.m.
Attending children must be at least 5 years old and must be accompanied by an adult parent and/or guardian. Teaching staff that choose to go on the trip will not be responsible for the supervision of children.
